All settings are verified as correct both when Sounds work and when they don't. Phone calls alert normally without fail. I have also experimented with changing each option within Notifications menus, selecting then deselecting dots, pop ups, etc. They do not. The only "cure" is a reboot, but the "fix" only lasts a very brief time before text and emails are all silent again. Other , Google Pixel 4 XL. Community content may not be verified or up-to-date. All Replies Platinum Product Expert Lilybell2. Recommended Answer. To eliminate the possibility that your phone's issue may be related to a third party app, try restarting the device in safe mode where third party apps cannot run, to test whether your phone still exhibits the same problems while no third party apps are running.

If you experience no issues while in safe mode, then the next step is to locate the offending app s and remove it. It is helpful to make a list of all apps you remove so that you can later reinstall those that are eliminated as a cause of the problem. If the problem continues to occur, even while in safe mode, then the next step would be to try a factory reset to see if that eliminates the problem. Original Poster. COL F. Thank you for the timely response, and sound recommendation. I shall indeed proceed as you have suggested. Thank you very much for posting and for providing the link back to the other thread posted by another user who encountered the same anomaly and wherein a Product Expert disclosed the apparent root cause. I spent ten days endeavoring to identify the cause, without a definitive solution, including running the phone in Safe Mode, uninstalling all apps, etc.

Upon reading of the discovery implicating inadvertently opened instances of the Google Assistant being responsible for suppressing audible SMS and Email notifications, I immediately replicated the anomaly, and likewise resolved the silenced notifications as suggested in the posted solution, essentially toggling the malfunction with Google Assistant. I find it remarkable that opening an instance of Google Assistant even inadvertently without actively closing that instance, results in these unintended, adverse consequences.

Bruce Martin. Lilybell2, I went into safe mode but still no sound for incoming messages. I rebooted back to normal and now text messages sent to me phone are never received. So a much worse situation. What now?
