With the V11 Pro, Vivo offered in-display fingerprint sensor to Indian consumers at and affordable price point. This then became one of the cool features and soon more smartphone companies included a similar sensor in their phones. With this phone, Vivo brings another new innovative technology to the mainstream market -- the pop-up selfie camera.
Vivo V15 Pro review: Beautiful and packed with NEXt-gen tech - Technology News
Back in with the NEX, Vivo introduced the pop-up selfie camera technology to the world but the phone was too expensive for most consumers, particularly in India. Now, Vivo has launched the V15 Pro with the similar pop-up camera setup, but at a relatively more affordable price of Rs 28, In fact, the pop-up camera mechanism is improved, as it is smoother and sturdier in the V15 Pro.
I have been using the V15 Pro for around 10 days now and can say that similar to its predecessor this Vivo phone also does a fairly good job in terms of display, design and the camera performance. It is also great to finally see a Vivo phone coming with Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. Lately, Vivo has been making some beautiful smartphones across all price segments. The V15 Pro is no exception. The device looks ravishing and I feel it is one the best-looking smartphones available under Rs 30, in India right now.
Keeping aside the fancy term that Vivo is using for the design, the looks of the V15 Pro are extremely eye catchy. I used the Topaz Blue colour and absolutely loved it. One of the best things about the V15 Pro is its display. The screen of the Vivo phone is pretty big and offers a great video viewing experience. The Vivo phone sports very minimal bezels and offers a screen-to-body-ratio of I believe like the V11 Pro the V15 Pro will be a good choice for you if you're a movie buff or a gamer.
The V15 Pro also offers pretty good viewing angles and shows vibrant colours. The Vivo V15 Pro uses a big 6. One of the reasons why the screen of the V15 Pro is so good is because it uses OLED panel, which tend to be brighter and more vibrant. I found the Vivo V15 Pro screen to be adequately bright in all lighting conditions -- be it under blazing sunlight or a not so well-lit room.
The Vivo V15 Pro also comes with adaptive brightness as well as allows users to play around with the colour temperature of the screen based on their requirement. To recall, the Vivo V11 Pro was an extremely sleek phone and also lightweight. But sadly that isn't the case with the new V15 Pro. The new Vivo phone feels slightly heavy in hands. Vivo has given some special attention to the camera -- or rather cameras -- of the Vivo V15 Pro.
The smartphone includes not two but three cameras on the back. The main "megapixel" camera uses Samsung GM 1 sensor, and by default uses pixel-binning to click megapixel images. This is the right approach, and it is nice to see Vivo sticking to megapixel photos by default.
The secondary camera of the Vivo phone uses an 8-megapixel AI super wide-angle sensor, and the third is a 5-megapixel camera that helps users click portrait shots. Overall the rear camera of the V15 Pro does a fairly good job in all lightning conditions. It click photos that have good amount of details but the colours sometimes end up looking oversaturated.
Some people will like these extra punchy colours, some will not. The front camera of the V15 turned my dusky skin to white. So, if you're looking for a smartphone with pop-up selfie camera that also clicks Instagram worthy pictures with layer of filters already added, the Vivo V15 is a good option to consider. However, if you -- like me -- want your selfies to look natural, well, you won't prefer what comes out of Vivo V On the back, the Vivo V15 includes three cameras -- with the primary camera being a 12MP sensor.
It is accompanied by a 8MP camera as well as a 5MP sensor that captures depth information for portrait mode. Overall, the pictures clicked with the V15 in daylight have good amount of details, but I don't like that the colours are often over-saturated.
Vivo V15 Pro
In low light the performance takes a hit. The main sensor struggles to capture and retain details in low light.

There is a Night Mode in the V15 camera app, and that helps in low light. Additionally, similar to other Vivo phones, I wish the portrait mode could have done a better job with the details and the edges. This is the same chipset that powers the Oppo F11 Pro as well as much cheaper Realme 3.
As for the performance, the Vivo V15 does a decent job. The phone is capable of handling regular usage that includes making and taking calls, messaging on WhatsApp, browsing social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, browsing the internet, watching videos, and sending emails with ease. I used the Vivo V15 as my primary device and the performance was quite decent. However, having multiple apps running on the background may make the phone lag sometimes. Also, if you are an avid gamer, the Vivo V15 isn't for you.
I tried playing games like PUBG and often the app crashed or the screen went off. Some of the basic games like subway surfers and Temple run pretty smoothly though. Sadly FunTouch OS 9 doesn't bring app drawer and it's filled with several third-party apps. I believe the performance of the Vivo V15 could have been slightly better and software less cluttered. The battery performance, however, is impressive.
The Vivo V15 comes with mAh battery and for me the phone lasted pretty long while I was reviewing it -- around 28 hours to put a number on it. Sadly, the phone comes with microUSB support. The Vivo V15 is a stylish phone with a lot of goodness inside it. But it has some issues as well. It is a good all-rounder phone with good looks, great battery life, decent performance, fast and smooth pop-up camera, decent camera performance on front and back, and bright display. Overall if you are not too demanding from your phone, and want a device with good screen, a nice pop-up selfie camera and attractive design, the V15 will satisfy you.
But, if you're a power user there are better options in the market at this price point.
